GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) — Mind Springs Health is making progress on their expansion of the only psychiatric hospital between Salt Lake City and Denver.
Construction began in September on the $34 Million West Springs Hospital facility,
With the new facility, the hospital and crisis stabilization unit will add 16 more beds, with more beds possibly being added in the future.
The design of the facility was a comprehensive plan with input from both patients and staff.
“What we will have with this new building is the opportunity to continue with excellent and high-quality care and the opportunity to use new and different treatment,” said Kim Boe, the executive vice president of West Springs Hospital. “What they felt like would be an environment that would be safe, and healing, and comfortable, and therapeutic so they could get better as quickly as possible.”
Key design aspects include having more space for visiting, and a lot more windows to bring in mother nature more to create a pleasing environment.
Construction has been helped by the mild winter. Crews were anticipated to be done by early 2019, but now the plan is to move in before the end of this year.
“A lot of time you do boxes where they don’t have many architectural features,” said Brad Alexander, the general superintendent for FCI Construction. “But this one has some really nice architectural features.”
For the staff of Mind Springs, it’s an exciting opportunity to change minds today and in the future.
“It’s a dream turned into this amazing space that will allow us to really serve our patients,” Boe said.
